Introducing The Stem-Cell Enhanced Facelift

Introducing The Stem-Cell Enhanced Facelift

Beverly Hills, CA- For the first time, the plastic surgery industry is bringing out beauty from within. Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Renato Calabria M.D. has given new meaning to the phrase “inner beauty”, by developing a revolutionary procedure which is the perfect combination of the body’s natural restorative powers and ground-breaking new “celution” technology to create the Stem Cell-Enhanced Facelift.

“The Stem Cell-Enhanced Facelift is a new procedure, which volumizes the face and creates a more youthful look,” Dr. Calabria explains. “This facelift not only restores the volume in the face, which has always been my goal, but it also adds regenerative cells which are beneficial to the rejuvenation process.”

The process utilizes Dr. Calabria’s own technique, the Vertical Facelift, and introduces the world to a revolutionary advancement that is sure to revamp the cosmetic surgery industry. First, Dr. Calabria harvests cells from the patient’s lower abdomen. This area contains rich regenerative cells, which include adult stem cells, blood vessel producing cells, and growth factor secreting cells, all of which aid in cell growth and rejuvenation. The collected tissue is then placed into the newest advancement in the anti-aging industry, the Celution Device.

The Celution Device’s purpose is to separate the stem and regenerative cells. After the cells are separated, they are washed and concentrated into a collection container. This amazing process can actually be completed within the timeframe of a single surgical procedure! Next, a syringe is used to collect the cells that are to be redelivered to the same patient for a stunning result. After the cells have been re-infused with the body by injecting them into the volume deprived areas of the face, the surrounding tissues guide the newly-placed cells, and facilitate a natural healing response.

During the facelift, the regenerative cells are gently embedded with a blunt cannula into layers of the skin and under various muscles in the face. Once the fat is placed, Dr. Calabria continues with the facelift, checks for symmetry, excises the excess skin and finally, anchors the skin in a vertical direction, the defining characteristic of his trademarked Vertical Facelift. This amazing new technology is only available in Italy at the moment, and Dr. Calabria is about to perform the very first Stem Cell-Enhanced facelift in Rome!

“After the Stem Cell-Enhanced Facelift, my patients will exhibit a dramatic improvement not only in the underlying soft tissue contouring of the face, but the skin itself,” notes Dr. Calabria. “This new procedure utilizes the body’s regenerating properties to enhance my patients’ natural beauty, from the inside out.”

Renato Pier Calabria, M.D., F.A.C.S is a Board Certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Dr. Calabria’s world-wide education has included graduating from the University of Padua Medical School in Padua, Italy, one of the oldest medical schools in the world. He also completed his postdoctoral training at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of California, San Diego. Plastic Surgery Gone Too Far

Plastic Surgery Gone Too Far -
Celebs Like Joan Rivers Sending Wrong Image to Society

Joan Rivers has been in the spotlight most recently for her wonderful work on this season’s Celebrity Apprentice, however, what kind of message will it send to viewers young and old if she were to win? Will America subconsciously start to believe that spending hundreds of thousands of dollars altering their face and becoming practically unrecognizable will actually help them be more successful in their lives? Plastic surgery has become a staple for Hollywood to help keep their glamorous good looks in tact longer than the rest of the population. However, like any other vice, plastic surgery can become addictive and can essentially accomplish the opposite of what is desired.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Greg Wiener states, “Patients lose their natural beauty when they stray away from the authentic lines of their face. Plastic surgery should be an enhancement, not a complete overhaul. When a patient starts to redesign their face, they destroy the features that made them so unique and end up with an abnormal look.”

ABOUT DR. GREG WIENER
Dr. Greg Wiener M.D. FACS is a board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon who has been practicing at Resurrection Hospital for the past 9 years. He was named a Consumer Reports “Top Surgeon” and completed his residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Wiener is a Contributing Editor for Aesthetic Trends and Technologies. Dr. Wiener has been featured in several media outlets such as E! News Live, WFLD-TV, WMAQ-TV, Univision Online, Oxygen Magazine, Healthy and Fit Magazine, Forbes, US Weekly, Life & Style Weekly, Globe, Daily Herald, Chicago Sun Times and the Today Show Website.

LIA Releases 2009 Version of Mastering Light — An Introduction to Laser Safety and Hazards

(Orlando, FL, April, 2009) — Laser Institute of America (LIA) announced the release of the 2009 version of its popular laser safety training DVD, Mastering Light — An Introduction to Laser Safety & Hazards.

As a cost-efficient and effective training tool, Mastering Light serves as an excellent resource for laser safety officers who are tasked with one of the most significant responsibilities in the organization — training new employees and keeping the team updated on current safety issues and practices. Laser operators, researchers and students will also benefit from the DVD’s helpful overview of laser safety.

As the number of laser end users continues to increase, more laser safety programs are being implemented in a wide variety of organizations and work environments. This has increased the need for laser safety training options that are easy to administer in the workplace. Written and produced by LIA, the Mastering Light DVD fulfills both the ANSI Z136.1 Safe Use of Lasers and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) training requirements for employees working with or around Class 3B or Class 4 lasers and laser systems.

“Our goal with the 2009 version of the Mastering Light DVD was to upgrade and enhance this comprehensive training tool and provide the LSO with a more effective learning solution for training others,” said Gus Anibarro, Education Manager for LIA. “Mastering Light is a great supplement for all in-house laser safety training programs.”

Presented in an easy-to-understand format, the 23-minute (approximately) DVD covers the basic fundamentals of laser safety including beam hazards, control measures, bioeffects, classifications, non-beam hazards, and much more. This comprehensive DVD will enable the LSO to expand their knowledge, easily train others (even those not working directly with lasers), and contribute to a safer work environment.

CLARISONIC® Skin Care System –The New Wave to Clear Skin

CLARISONIC® Skin Care System –The New Wave to Clear Skin

The Creators of the Sonicare Toothbrush Bring the Benefits of Sonic Oscillation Technology to Professional and At-Home Skin Care

The primary inventor of the Sonicare toothbrush, now directing a new company and team of specialists, proudly introduces a breakthrough technology in skin care: the CLARISONIC Skin Care System. Used pre-treatment by top dermatologists and spas throughout the country, this patented sonic technology has proven to be instrumental in improving facial cleansing, the first and most important step in any beauty ritual. Building from CLARISONIC’s tremendous in-office success, the makers of CLARISONIC now bring the device to the home through top retailers nationwide.

CLARISONIC is the first sonic oscillation face brush that deeply cleanses, stimulates and clarifies the skin. Using any nonabrasive facial cleanser, CLARISONIC works with the skin’s natural elasticity to unclog pores for deeper cleansing without stripping the skin. Safe for virtually all skin types and for daily use, CLARISONIC is clinically shown to be 2x more effective at cleansing the skin than manual cleansing with soap and water. With its easy usage and waterproof design, no additional time is added to the beauty regimen and it can safely be used in the shower.

“These days, women are using sunscreens daily, long-lasting makeup and self-tanners, so it’s imperative to properly cleanse the face if you want clear skin,” says Dr. Ranella Hirsch, a leading Boston-based dermatologist. “Dirt, oil and bacteria left on the skin can wreak havoc, and without clean pores, treatment products like acne fighters and anti-aging moisturizers are less effective.”

While individuals embrace the plethora of skin care treatment products on the market, cleansing continues to be one of the most overlooked categories, similar to dental care when the Sonicare toothbrush was first introduced. What seemed like an unnecessary dental tool turned into a cult classic, changing the way countless individuals care for their teeth. With CLARISONIC, the approach is the same: use superior sonic technology to dramatically improve how we care for our face, and in turn, our appearance.

The CLARISONIC Skin Care System is available to purchase for a suggested retail price of $195 at leading retailers throughout the United States, including:

Leading Dermatologists Using CLARISONIC

Dr. Ranella Hirsch, Boston-based dermatologist: “As a dermatologist, I emphasize proper cleansing to my patients, but until now, there wasn’t anything on the market that I could recommend that I knew would truly make a difference. It’s not about the cleanser most of the time, it’s about the process.”

Dr. Fredric A. Stern, medical director of the Stern Center for Aesthetic Surgery in Bellevue, WA: “Proper skin cleansing allows your skin to fully absorb whatever skin care product you are using. CLARISONIC, together with a gentle cleanser, really deep cleans the pores allowing the skin to more fully benefit from other products such as sunscreen and moisturizer.”

Dr. Barbara Schell, founder of Seattle’s premier medical spa, Ageless, the Center for Rejuvenation: “CLARISONIC is truly a wonderful invention. We have one in every treatment room and recommend our patients take one home for daily use. I am excited to be able to recommend the CLARISONIC to all of my clients regardless of their skin type, age or skin condition. It is very gratifying to have such positive feedback. Everyone loves the way their skin looks and feels with the CLARISONIC.”

Clarisonic® Enhances PRO Model with New Spot Therapy Brush Head

Beyond the Face: Sonic Technology Offers Skin Care Professionals and Their Patients a Perfect Glow From Head to Toe

Clarisonic® Enhances PRO Model with New Spot Therapy Brush Head

BELLEVUE, Wash. - Brandished by leading dermatologists, cosmetic surgeons, and estheticians as the essential first step in skin care procedures, the Clarisonic PRO Skin Care System has taken cleansing beyond the face with the introduction of a new Spot Therapy Brush Head.

Engineered to care for areas of the body needing extra attention, Clarisonic’s new Spot Therapy Brush Head is powered by the Clarisonic PRO model. The Clarisonic PRO offers three speeds for the face, plus an enhanced fourth, higher speed and a Spot Therapy mode setting to gently cleanse and exfoliate areas of the body such as décolleté, elbows, knees and feet. The higher power setting and Spot Therapy mode enhance the Clarisonic PRO to address important skin concerns such as texture, dullness and lack of radiance resulting in noticeably softer, smoother, firmer skin.

The Power of Sonic Technology
In a four-week home-use study, 96 percent of patients reported the Clarisonic PRO model with the Spot Therapy Brush Head left them with softer, smoother skin. Study participants also reported healthier appearance of skin (85 percent), fewer dry patches (91 percent), increased firmness (64 percent) and better absorption of body products after cleansing (68 percent).

“People associate a healthy person with healthy skin,” says Wm. Philip Werschler, MD. “It’s important to make body exfoliation a part of the skin care ritual as it stimulates circulation and increases the skin’s absorption of any nourishing or moisturizing ingredients. When dead skin cells are not removed skin looks rough and lusterless. The Clarisonic PRO Skin Care System with the Spot Therapy Brush Head is instrumental in preparing the skin to better absorb skin care products.”

Complementing the Spot Therapy Brush Head is a new Refining Skin Polish developed by Robb Akridge, PhD., co-founder and vice president of Clinical Affairs at Clarisonic. Rich in gentle exfoliants, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients, such as jojoba beads, acai fruit oil, prickly pear and bamboo extract, the polish is a three-tier refining solution to promote skin revitalization, firming and soothing.

“This triple-action polishing formula targets signs of environmentally-stressed skin by gently softening and soothing skin while antioxidants such as green tea and wine extracts provide anti-inflammatory properties,” explains Dr. Robb Akridge. ”Rich in essential vitamins, amino acids and designed to gently exfoliate, brighten and sooth, the Refining Skin Polish allows for firm, supple, and smooth skin.”

Available exclusively to skin care professionals and their patients in January 2009, the Clarisonic PRO with Spot Therapy Brush Head and Refining Skin Polish retails for $225. Users can customize their Clarisonic with multiple brush heads, cleansers, and speeds. A Spot Therapy kit for existing Clarisonic PRO models will also be available exclusively to skincare professionals and their patients for $50 beginning January 2009 and comes complete with Spot Therapy Brush Head, Refining Skin Polish and a travel bag.

Group Health Insurance Plan for Association Members Without Borders

Group Health Insurance Plan for Association Members Without Borders

Union City, NJ - The Day Spa Association and the International Medical Spa Association are proud to remind the industry that members of both organizations can now be covered by a single group policy at affordable rates with more than adequate coverage, especially in emergencies.

Today, more than 14% of Americans — 41.2 million are uninsured, many of them working in small businesses like day spas, medical spas and the many suppliers of professional goods and services. With insurance premiums at an all-time high and ever-rising, most small day spa businesses cannot afford to cover their owners or staff.

“With most insurance laws being governed by their State Boards, the task of obtaining a group health policy outside the states’ borders for our DSA members was an impossible undertaking”, says Hannelore R. Leavy, Founder and Executive Director of The Day Spa Association and The International Medical Spa Association. After over a decade of searching, we are finally able to offer our members a group health insurance plan that is fit for the day spa and medical spa industries”.

“Lawrence J. Wells of FHS, Incorporated worked tireless to find the correct health insurance programs appropriate for the workforce within our industries. DSA Board chairperson Rosemary Weiner with decades of medical and insurance experience in the healthcare field helped us through the maze of premiums, restrictions, benefits and more. The premiums are a fraction of the cost of a comprehensive major medical plan and the plan is highly rated by industry “watchdog” organizations. Best of all, this plan is available at an affordable price and applicable in all 50 states!

AIM Health Max is the DSA/IMSA members’ Major Medical Alternative option. This is a high benefit program available to both salon and day spa businesses as well as for individuals. This program has no deductibles, there is no lifetime maximum benefit limit and offers up front defined benefits. Coverage includes insurance for doctor, hospital, X-ray, lab, surgical, $5 prescription drug card and extra benefits such as advance lump sum payment upon diagnosis of a critical illness.

If you and/or your employees are on a high deductible plan, uninsured or on a plan that just costs too much, you need to check this out!

* No Medical Questions, this plan will accept everyone regardless of their personal health history.

* No APS or Exam. This plan will not check your medical background or require you to have a paramed or doctor examination.

* No Rate Up. You will not be rated up on this plan due to age, location or medical history.

Monthly Premiums start for as little as $127 for singles, $211 for single parents and $274 for a family plan. The DSA/IMSA plan offers insurance coverage for inpatient hospitalization, emergency room care, surgical fees, anesthesia fees, outpatient diagnostic services, physician office visits and a prescription drug plan. The plan offers $1,000,000.00 lifetime benefits, with no annual limits. An accidental death or dismemberment benefit is also included at no additional charge. There are no physical exams or forms required for coverage. To be eligible for this insurance one must only be a member in good standing of the DSA or IMSA and apply for enrollment. This applies to individual members, as well as business members. The plan requires no health history, is guaranteed issue and rates are not affected by gender, age or health status.

Day Spas, medical spas and other businesses belonging to the associations can enroll as an employer group. Employer groups can include coverage for their full time and part time employees as well as their independent contractors. The monthly premium structure allows the employer group the options to offer the health insurance fully subsidized by the employer or on a cost sharing basis with the members of the group or as a full pass on cost to the group members. This flexibility provides several attractive options for cost conscious employers. AIM also offers the option of billing the insured directly, thus there is no additional payroll deduction/accounting necessary by the employer.

To receive more information on coverage and premiums contact Marie Bednarz at 248-524-2942 or via email at spabenefits@aol.com

Banish Bikini Bulge on Your Back

Banish Bikini Bulge on Your Back

Chicago-Based Plastic Surgeon tells us how.

One of the newest procedures rolled out by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons can help keep your string bikini from disappearing between your back bulges- the “bra-line back lift”.

Exercise and dieting alone have proven ineffective when battling back fat and a bra, strapless dress or a bikini can create an unwanted roll on even the thinnest and most in-shape women. This new back lift procedure will banish the bulge and be a perfect complement to a healthy diet and exercise regimen. The surgical scar is strategically placed where a bra or bikini can hide it.

Board-certified Dr. Greg Wiener states, “My clients often feel unaccomplished despite all of their hard work to look and feel fit. They diet and exercise and yet still can’t wear a bikini without feeling self-conscious over the extra bulge that forms around the strap or string. This is a great way for them to stay healthy and reward themselves for a job well done.”

The Perfect Breast

The Perfect Breast

Renowned plastic surgeon tells us the right size, shape,
feel and how to get it.

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery breast augmentation came in at the number one performed procedure in 2008. It’s apparent that many women across the world are looking to obtain “perfect” breasts and while everyone has different ideas of what that looks like in the plastic surgery industry there are clearly defined characteristics to what makes a perfect breast. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Greg Wiener tells us what his goals are when designing and executing a perfect breast augmentation.

“A perfect breast will have a nipple that points slightly skywards, sitting at just above half way up the breast. Also, the lower half of the breast should be just a bit larger than the upper half. This gives a much more natural shape to breasts than an exact circle or globe,” comments Dr. Wiener. He goes on to state. “It is also good to keep in mind that the bigger the better is not a rule to live by; a perfect breast follows the silhouette of a woman’s body and looks natural as well as proportional.

Dr. Wiener’s expertise has been sought after by many media outlets such as E! News Live, Forbes, Oxygen Magazine, Healthy and Fit Magazine, WFLD-TV and WMAQ-TV. Dr. Wiener is also an Aesthetic Trends and Technologies Contributing Editor.

Mini Cosmetic Procedures Increasing in Popularity

Mini Me by Dr. Greg Weiner - Mini Cosmetic Procedures Increasing in Popularity

Undergoing cosmetic surgery is a big decision for many people, but with the development of “mini procedures,” patients are given the option to not only reduce the invasiveness of the procedure, but also the recovery time and cost.

These are a few mini- procedures that Chicago based plastic surgeon Dr. Greg Wiener offers:

Mini Tummy Tuck
The mini tummy tuck, or partial Abdominoplasty, is an option for patients who would like a small amount of abdominal skin removed – not enough for a full Abdominoplasty. The mini tummy tuck is a body contouring procedure done to improve the appearance of excess fat and loose, stretched out skin in the lower abdominal area. In comparison to a full tummy tuck, a mini tummy tuck procedure typically allows the patient to be released within a few hours of the procedure.

Mini Liposuction
Mini Liposuction is a less complicated and shorter modification of the classic liposuction. mini Liposuction is typically performed on candidates that are close to their desired weight, but who are looking for a more balanced and proportionate appearance. Common sites of mini Liposuction include under the chin, around the knees and at the upper part of the chest, near the armpit.

Mini Face Lift
The mini face lift, or S-Lift, is done by making a small incision at the front of the ear, minimizing scarring and downtime. This technique is quicker and can be done under local anesthesia. The mini face lift is becoming more popular, earning the name “Weekend Facelift” due to the speedy procedure and recovery time.
